Intermediate – Senior Structural Engineer (Construction Management Focus)

Wellington / Kāpiti Coast – Early 2026 start.

Are you a driven structural engineer who thrives on seeing designs come to life on site?

Do you enjoy the challenge of construction management, coordination, and problem-solving – while keeping your eye on the bigger picture of leading and growing a regional team?

If yes, this could be your next step!

The Engineering Collective (TEC) is an Auckland-based consultancy with teams in Ellerslie and Manila, Philippines. We have a great opportunity to expand into the Wellington region and are looking for an Intermediate – Senior Structural Engineer to oversee the construction phase of a major project commencing in early 2026.

Initially, your focus will be on construction management, acting as our site-based technical lead and client representative (with 1-2 site visits per week) plus technical support to problem solve inevitable changes due to site conditions and coordination. Over time, you’ll build and lead a local structural engineering team as the regional workload grows.

What you’ll do

  • Take ownership of construction-phase structural coordination and delivery for a large project.
  • Provide technical oversight during site works – responding to RFIs, managing design clarifications, and ensuring structural intent is delivered accurately and safely.
  • Liaise closely with contractors, clients, and consultants to manage programme, cost, and quality outcomes.
  • Facilitate site meetings and prepare concise, insightful progress reports.
  • Develop local delivery systems and standards, then help recruit and mentor a regional team.
  • Contribute to the strategic growth of TEC in the Wellington region.

What you’ll bring

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • CPEng (or near completion) preferred.
  • 5-10+ years’ experience in structural engineering, including design delivery and significant construction-phase involvement.
  • Proven ability to work independently, confidently representing design intent on site.
  • Strong understanding of NZ construction practices, standards, and materials (particularly steel and concrete).
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with a proactive, solution-focused mindset.
  • Right to live and work in New Zealand, and availability for 1–2 site visits per week in the Wellington region.

Why join TEC?

  • Leadership pathway: genuine opportunity for profit share and potential future business ownership.
  • Career growth: build and lead a regional structural team as TEC expands.
  • Flexible working: hybrid with office, site, and home-based balance that suits you.
  • Supportive culture: backed by a collaborative, high-performing national and offshore team.

Timing & Location

  • Start: early 2026 for active site delivery.
  • Base: Wellington / Kāpiti Coast, with 1–2 site visits per week and flexible working arrangements.
